Los Angeles is a really exciting, vibrant, and unique destination for group travel. Like many cities, Los Angeles has a lot to offer in terms of museums, dining, attractions, shopping, live entertainment, and cultural events. Los Angeles has world-class conference, conventions, and meeting facilities and stands out as one of the busiest cities for all kinds of business travel. L.A. has a lot of company in this regard from other large cities. However, L.A. stands out from other cities because of its beautiful year-round weather and some of its unique charms: Hollywood, the home of American cinema; proximity to great Southern California attractions and neighboring cities, such as San Diego and Orange County. Here are ten of my favorite Los Angeles attractions that I think are perfect for group travelers.
1) Farmers Market - Located on the corner of Fairfax and Wilshire, the Farmers Market has its origins back in the Great Depression. Today it is a booming market with fresh fruit and vegetable vendors, restaurants, specialty shops, and more. Thousands of people come to the Farmers Market every day. Definitely check this out because it offers a little something for everyone.
2) The Music Center - At the top of Bunker Hill is The Music Center, which includes the Ahmanson Theater, the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, the Mark Taper Forum, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. If you have the opportunity to get theater or concert tickets, Los Angeles offers some world-class performances.
3) Griffith Park - This 4,000 acre park is home to the Los Angeles Zoo and the Griffith Park Observatory. The Park also features a Greek theater, golf, tennis, and an equestrian riding center. This is a great place to walk or ride a bike, and has the added appeal as having a prominent part in "A Rebel Without A Cause" with James Dean.
4) The J. Paul Getty Museum - This is perhaps one of the best museums in California, and the museum's art collection features masterpieces from Roman And Greek antiquities to modern works. The museum collections feature sculpture, painting, drawings, photographs and also an incredible institution devoted to the study of the humanities.
5) Museum of Contemporary Art - The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art is an eclectic, growing, and changing venue for important and interesting contemporary art. It is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in art.
6) Beverly Hills - This posh neighborhood is a very popular destination. Beverly Hills has some fantastic shopping opportunities, even if you only want to stroll past the upscale shops. Dine at the Hotel Bel-Air, go shopping at the Century City Shopping Center, or stroll on Rodeo Drive.
7) Venice Beach - Venice is known for an eclectic mix of street performers, great opportunities for people watching, and for bodybuilders working out right along the boardwalk in a designated beach front gym.
8) Hollywood Walk of Fame - On Hollywood Boulevard is the Walk of Fame, featuring the hand and footprints of over two thousand actors and actresses from television and the big screen. Check out the names on the famous stars, and also be sure to check out such favorites as Mann's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
9) Mission San Gabriel - About 8 miles east of Los Angeles is the city of San Gabriel, where you can visit the Mission San Gabriel Arcangel. The mission was constructed in 1806 and is an important example of California mission architecture and the Moorish influence on Spanish mission building.
10) Santa Monica Beach - This three mile stretch of beach is one of the nicest in the Los Angeles area. There are some beautiful views of the Pacific, and Santa Monica Beach is also known for its exceptional gardens.
